Note regarding out of area adoptions: Due to the over population of dogs and cats across the country and because of the importance we place on doing home visits, ARPO limits placing its adoptable pets within a 50 mile radius of Indianapolis.

The Commitment
Acquiring a new companion animal is a big responsibility, and a commitment for the lifetime of the animal. If you are not prepared to care for your companion through good times and bad, please reconsider acquiring a pet. Pets take time, effort, and patience, and will reward you 1000 times over. If you are ready for a lifetime of love and furry hugs, please contact us!
If you think you're ready for a lifelong companion, see our ARPO pets here:

The Cost
Thank you for considering a rescued companion animal. The following adoption fees* are required:

  • An adult dog (6 months or older): $150
  • A puppy (under 6 months): $175
  • An adult cat (6 months or older): $50
  • A kitten: $100
  • Two kittens: $150

*Some animals may be listed for amounts different than our normal rates. If the fee is other than the normal rate, it will be noted on their Petfinder ad.

Your new companion comes with all of the following:

  • All animals are vet checked for healthiness

  • All animals will be up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations

  • All animals will be micro-chipped for their safety

  • All animals will be spayed or neutered prior to placement
Micro-chipping is done through the Home Again animal recovery system. For more information on micro-chipping, please click here.

As a special bonus, you may be eligible for 1 free month of ShelterCare Pet Insurance. It is pre-paid by Petfinder.com for animals adopted through their service. Please visit www.sheltercare.com for more information.

The Process
We do not have a shelter, so all of our pets are in volunteer foster care. While living in foster care, all of our animals receive individualized, loving attention. We hold adoptions at various pet store locations throughout the greater Indianapolis area. All times are 12 - 4 pm except where noted. We try to post any last minute schedule changes on the News and Events section of our site.

Potential adopters must fill out the Adoption Pre-Qualification Form. An interview and home visit are also required. These home visits are done by a member of our all volunteer staff. Lastly, before taking your new companion, a contract must be signed, including the provision that the adopter will provide quality food, shelter, and medical care, and will have the animal spayed or neutered by the time he/she is 6 months old, if not neutered prior to adoption.
